Artists Statement
My journey as an artist began when macro-photography revealed
mathematical patterns in insects and flowers. These patterns are also
in science textbooks. The cross-fertilization between macro-
photography and scientific imagery has ignited the creativity that
produces and drives my art.
In my work and in my art, I strive to effect “knowledge exchange”
between the often-isolated world of science and the everyday world of
people’s lives. Working in field of HIV/AIDS has taught me that
knowledge is power, and that the collective sharing of different ways
of knowing—scientific, artistic, emotional and experiential, for
example—can bring understanding, inspiration and healing.
My work in new media explores a “text-free” dialogue between art and
science. The intersections of colour, distortions of mathematical
patterns and abstraction, can provide startling new ways to make
sense of complex phenomenon. I use these tools to explore diverse
themes such as happiness, healing, quantum computing and resilience
in the face of climate change.
As our climate mutates, we adapt, use our collective knowledge and
set our imagination free, first to heal ourselves, and then our
planet. My art chronicles and explores the complexities of that change.
Photography
My photography seeks to reflect the beauty of our fragile planet, through colour, form and contrast. Until 2006 my medium was 35 mm film. However in that year I moved completely to a digital workflow capturing images with a Nikon D200 camera.
Images are taken at 300 dots per inch and can easily be enlarged to 30 cm x 50 cm (12 inches x 24 inches) without significant loss of resolution.
I wish to work with much larger finished prints and so in 2009 we will begin the move to digital medium-format photography. This will allow image capture with a larger and better sensor and output to sizes such as 100 cm x 150 cm (3 feet x 4 feet) and perhaps even larger sizes.
Photograph Products
A limited range of greeting cards, prints laminated onto small wooden frames and framed prints are available.
Prints
Images are printed with pigmented inks on archival-quality paper. Colours
are estimated to last ~ 100 years.
Framing is done with wood harvested from a sustainable-farmed forest.
Covering the image with museum-quality glass is recommended as this screens
out ultraviolet light – a major cause of fading.
Abstracts
In parallel with my photography, since 1996, I have been creating
semi-abstract art using a tablet and stylus.

Framed images
Each piece is produced in limited, signed quantities. All works are printed
at high resolution with pigmented inks on archival-quality paper. Colours
are estimated to last ~ 100 years.
Because each work is created digitally at high resolution, we are able to
produce custom-made sizes.

Wooden squares
Only certain images are released in this format. Images are cold laminated
onto wooden squares, approximately 20 cm x 20 cm (8 inches x 8 inches). A
thin protective layer is placed over the image to protect it.
